He shook his head. “This isn’t going to work.”

He was about to get up, but she pulled him down. “There’s only one way to find out. Kiss me.” 

He shook his head. 

“Wow,” she mumbled. She understood now. “It’s not the plan. It’s the teacher.”

“Melody,” he growled. “That’s not it. This just won’t work. I know it.”

“Yeah, you keep saying that.” She found another pillow and hugged it, feeling suddenly very self-conscious. For a moment, with him, she’d forgotten all that had weighed her down. She’d felt like the old Melody, the Grammy award-winning superstar who could get any man she wanted. Now all she felt like was a sack of potatoes. “It’s okay if you don’t want to kiss me. Maybe I can find another teacher for you.”

“Of course, I want to kiss you.” With an angry snarl, he tore the pillow from her hands and moved into her personal space, so close that he trailed his nose along her jaw until he stopped at her ear. The tone of his following words was so deep that it rattled her ribcage. “I’ve been craving a taste of you since I first bumped into you. Your sweet scent drives me insane with want. Why else do you think I almost murdered a stranger who had his cruel fingers on you?”

Melody’s heart thundered. Did he… was he…?
